One of many stories—-So, it was our sophmore year in high school and I was just about to ask Sam, to the girl ask guy winter formal. I put together a goofy song to the tune of Jingle Bells. I then prepared dinner and all I needed now was somebody willing to dress the part. Summer was the one for the job! I sat Sam down for dinner. Much to his surprise a reindeer dressed in red and green, with balloons tied all around her, came galloping across the hard wood floor, making all kinds of noise! She was singing this CRAZY song all out of tune. Sam’s mouth was full of food and a smile. It took all he had to contain the food in his mouth. We laughed together for quite a while. How could he say no after that? Thanks Summer!

Margie…that’s a great story. We are making a collection of stories for a huge memory book and will display on this website when it’s ready. Tomorrow is Memorial Day….a small group of family is going to the cemetery to renew the silk flowers. We found a red/white/blue glitter heart and put Summer’s photo in it so it can act as a grave marker until we get the stone marker. Here is a poem Bob’s niece found for Summer that is just like her and is keeping her memory alive for us.

    SUMMER LIGHT

Summer Light – Thru the Trees
    Summer Light – Spotted Me
    Summer Light – Palest Gold
Summer Light – Bright and Bold

    I Saw Summer Light Descend
    Summer Light, Made Shadows Bend
Summer Light, On An Emerald Pond
I Reached Out…It Touched My Palm

Summer Light, It Fell Like Powder
    Or a Floating Incandescent Feather
Came Down, Like A Sheer, White Swan
Summer Light – Lifted Wing-Like Arms

    So Sunrays Slanted – Shone-Misty
    Summer Light-Beams, Embraced Me
    Warm, Wonderful Summer Light
    Touch Me Tender, Solar-Might

Summer Light, When I Was Lost
Summer Light, Found Me Before Frost
Summer Light – None Else Looked For Me…
Summer Light Said, “I Always See…”

    I Love Summer Light

Last week was Bob’s birthday and today is my birthday. We are so blessed to have so many family members and friends call us and help celebrate another year on earth.

Today Bob woke me with kisses and is bringing flowers to decorate when friends and family help me celebrate at a luncheon tomorrow. I talked with Patrick and Sheri this weekend, Ty and Michelle called early this morning and I fully expect to hear from Mitch later. My brother, Frank, called and we visited on the phone. Plus, several friends, family and Lee, my cute sister-in-law, all wished us happy birthday on Facebook.

Of course, Summer always called us too and we miss hearing her voice….but something wonderful happened 8/11/12. We were stuck in traffic on I-10 on the way to Ruidoso NM for a birthday vacation. We called the AAA trip check hotline and a young lady named Summer answered our call! I was shocked and it brought to my mind and heart that we should consider this a birthday gift of contact from OUR precious Summer from beyond the veil.

I asked the AAA Summer how old she was and she answered almost 30. I explained that we had a Summer in our family and because there are so few “Summers” on the planet, that we considered her talking to us a special event. I then asked her….”If you could say anything to your mother, what would you say?” She said…”I would tell her I miss her…she lives far away and I really miss her”. I really wish I had replied…”and your mother loves you very much and misses you too”, but I was so choked with tears and didn’t want to be more intrusive. So, I just thanked her for being kind enough to answer a personal question from a stranger. We truly felt our Summer-Sue’s message to us.

Usually I cry sad tears when I think of Summer and miss her….but today I am crying tears of happiness for the blessings of all the experiences from all my precious children, grandchildren, family and my hero, Bob. I am sharing this story and music video so you will know that Summer is still loving and communicating with us and encouraging us.
